Lexi Goes on Vacation to The Outer Banks by Janice Wills Kingsbury is a beautiful and heartwarming story that conveys a message of compassion, love and the gift of living to readers. Lexi is picked up from the streets of Virginia by a good person and given to the SPCA. Lexi is then adopted by Ms Janice and Mr Rob, and Lexi adapts quickly into his new home. Though smoke bothers Lexi, he slowly becomes a confident and stable dog. During summer vacation, the family takes Lexi with them to Duck, a friendly beach community that welcomes dogs and humans alike. Lexi meets other dogs and makes friends with them, but his favorite friend is Rascal. The twist in the story happens when one day Lexi goes missing. Will Rob and Janice be able to find Lexi with the help of his other dog friends, or will Lexi end up being a stray dog like before?
The book is perfect for animal lovers, especially dog lovers and those who have pets. The illustrations complement the story nicely and breathe life into the scenes and characters in the tale. All the dogs are adorable and the author gives each one of them their own personality, making them memorable. It is a good story to read out to children as it teaches them about compassion and loving others. The author's love for dogs is evident throughout the book. This adorable story written from the heart will definitely strike a chord in the hearts of readers.
