Hop on for an exciting adventure in the Arctic with Leigh Doest's Better Together. This rhyming tale follows the story of Patrick, a well-meaning but naive penguin who has a very high opinion of himself. Patrick likes to show off, and what better way to do that than performing in the upcoming talent show where all the Arctic animals will showcase their skills? As all the animals gather to do their performances and demonstrate their talents, Patrick, trying to show he's the best, overextends himself and falls into a crevice. He suddenly finds himself in a dark, icy cave. Scared out of his wits, Patrick finds unexpected help from the shy sea turtle, Sulley. Sulley helps Patrick climb up to the surface and, in doing so, makes some lifelong friends he wanted all along.
Even if you're talented, you should always strive to be humble, never a braggart. This gentle lesson is beautifully interwoven in this hilarious adventure tale by Leigh Doest. At its core, Better Together is a story about unlikely friendships and learning from one's mistakes. This rhyming picture book will make you laugh, teach you a thing or two about friendship and the importance of helping others in need, and leave you with a broad smile on your face long after you've finished reading. Although written for children, even older readers will find much to love about this story. The artwork by Marcin Poludniak is wonderful as it complements the light-hearted tone of the narrative. Overall, it's a story narrated through catchy rhymes that children are going to love. Recommended to readers below the age of eight!
