Depression is the leading cause of suicide in the world today. Many people secretly deal with it and find it difficult to open up due to fear of being judged or misunderstood. Brett Cotter uses his experience as a trauma recovery expert to help people who are in a state of suicidal ideation to overcome these feelings and also arm their loved ones with the knowledge of how to approach situations of suicidal feelings. He documents this wealth of knowledge in The Suicide Prevention Family Handbook. It is a self-help book that shows readers how to deal with loved ones going through depression, how to overcome suicidal thoughts, and how to cope after the loss of a loved one to suicide. It contains the experiences of people who have been in similar situations and how they were able to overcome them.

The Suicide Prevention Family Handbook is not just a self-help book. It is a life-saving tool that offers practical and realistic solutions on how to bring calmness to a stormy heart. I love the way the author carefully divides the book into different parts that make it engaging and effective. I also love the use of images to solidify the words and make them more relatable. I appreciate the fact that the book approaches issues from an empathic perspective, making the author's advice very appealing. The best part for me is the physical and mental exercises readers (both the depressed and their loved ones) can practice. I recommend this book to persons who are depressed or on the verge of depression. Families and loved ones of depressed people will find the book helpful.
