Tucker’s Story is a lovely book by Bobbie Asad. Tucker is a Shepherd who lived with a family until he was three years old. One day his owner deliberately left him at the park, and he was sad, confused and hungry. Luckily, there were kind strangers around who befriended Tucker and they often brought him food to eat. He did not like being homeless, and had to keep a watchful eye for the mean dog catcher who wanted to put him in doggie jail. One day he met a group of rescue workers and his life changed forever. They found a family who adopted Tucker and he was very happy again. He had new toys and went to a day camp called Dog Trotters. Some of his dog friends are Norman, Trooper and Little Girl. Tucker was so loved at camp that they even included his image in their logo.

Bobbie Asad wrote Tucker’s Story about the rescue dog she adopted named Tucker. She has adopted many dogs over the years and they are all given the opportunity to share their own stories. The illustrations are neatly sketched and the actual photos of Tucker are cute. The author cleverly made Tucker narrate his own tale, so readers know exactly how he felt when he was abandoned, and what that horrible experience was like. Small children will love seeing the photos and they will respond in a positive way to the outcome of this charming story.
