Definitely (A Story of Kindness and Empathy), written by Sara Brown and illustrated by Anastasia Dragunova, is a children’s book on school life that would appeal most to an audience of parents and young children. Mathew is a young boy who is excited about school, but somehow things keep going wrong. A series of small mishaps, including forgotten sneakers, a lost backpack, and a knocked-over block tower, threaten to ruin Mathew's school day. Will Mathew be able to overcome these obstacles and grow from them, or is his day destined to end in tears?

Definitely (A Story of Kindness and Empathy) by Sara Brown is a sweet children’s book that focuses on friendship, social skills, compassion, and school life for children. The book is filled with age-appropriate illustrations that help draw young readers into the story with its colorful images. I liked how the children in the story were a mix of races and genders, as it made the book feel inclusive to all races. The narrative accompanying the illustrations is perfectly written for a K-3 audience; the word choice is kept simple with everyday vocabulary so that children can enjoy and learn from the story without wondering what certain words mean. I particularly liked how the challenges Matthew faced were realistic for a young child in a school environment. Overall, this is a great book for parents and teachers to read with young children starting school, as it teaches very real lessons using situations children could encounter at school.
