One fateful, stormy night, a couple stumbled upon a little girl lying on the sand. There were no footprints, no sign of anyone else—as if she was a secret the ocean itself had wanted to keep but couldn’t. Years later an old letter would find her. It had no return address—only her name: Morwenna Willowheart Brightwood. At first, Morwenna (now an adult) thought about disposing of it. But then the faces came, slithering in the waves beneath the foam and spray and whispering the secrets of her long-forgotten past. The time had come for the heir of Selkie royalty and druidic lineage to tap into the magic simmering in her blood. But one power-crazed ancient warlock is set on using Morwenna's magic as a weapon to tear down the walls between land and sea and fuse both realms into one under his rule. Dive into Lisa A. Moore's Whispers of the Selkie and join Morwenna as she sets out across land and sea to untangle the generations-old mystery of her Selkie heritage and break the curse.

Lisa A. Moore's prose is excellent; she's a master storyteller. You can hear the angry waves crash onto the rocks and the winds scream, the ocean itself echoing the fury building within Morwenna. Ancient foes are set to clash, and stories that appear to be science fiction and mythical become something bigger and stranger. You feel the tension build up from within. The magnetism of the conflict unfolding offshore wraps itself around you like the sealskin around Morwenna—it did for me. The characters are fantastic. They burn with angst and fierce determination. I couldn't wait to see Morwenna's undiluted Selkie power come to full bloom against Lucien's all-consuming dark magic and I was not disappointed. The story thrives on high-stakes worldbuilding. Even deeper, it expands into self-discovery, survival, love, family, and what it truly means to be friends. Whispers of the Selkie is ideal for fans of adventure, adrenaline-packed action, magic, and excitement steeped in mythology. It's unputdownable—I loved it!

Whispers of the Selkie is an urban fantasy by Lisa A. Moore. After receiving a mysterious letter pulsing with ancient magic and whispers, Morwenna Willowheart Brightwood discovers she possesses the magical powers of the selkies through her mother, Eira. With her paternal aunt Skye Ravensong, a druid, as her guide, Morwenna leaves her home in Portland, Maine, and travels to the Scottish Highlands with her sister, Ava, to uncover the secrets of her family heritage. However, a dangerous warlock seeks to claim Morwenna's powers and will stop at nothing to achieve his nefarious plans. Morwenna, Skye, Ava, and local historian Ewan Graylock must now embark on a treacherous quest to break the Willowheart family curse, find Eira's skin, and stop the warlock from acquiring powers that will enable him to conquer the world.

Author Lisa A. Moore draws from Celtic and Norse mythology to present an absorbing, fantastical tale of magic, mystery, and adventure. Whispers of the Selkie follows a young woman's journey of self-discovery as she fulfills her destiny. Moore paces the plot nicely, featuring timely twists and turns along the way that keep the reader invested in the story. The narrative is thoroughly engrossing, primarily because of the likable and well-developed characters. Morwenna is easy to root for, but it's the side characters like Skye, Ava, Ewan, and even Lucien who make you feel the stakes and add depth to the story. The action sequences are epic. Fantasy fans will have an absolute blast reading those scenes. I loved everything about this book. If you're a fantasy reader, definitely grab a copy!

Whispers of the Selkie by Lisa A. Moore is a gripping fantasy. During a violent storm, Morwenna Willowheart Brightwood receives a mysterious letter that sets her on a journey of self-discovery, acceptance of who she is, and embracing her destiny. Morwenna experiences strange things, like hearing whispers and seeing creatures she thought were myths. She soon learns about her adoption and magical connection to the sea. From the letter, she discovers that something ties her to the sea, that she must find it, and that there's a powerful, ancient curse for her to break so that her mother's fate, who vanished under mysterious circumstances, would not be her own. Morwenna is in grave danger. The powerful warlock who hunted her mother is now searching for her to claim her magical selkie powers. With dark forces after her, Morwenna goes to Scotland, to the Highlands, where she must find answers about her family's past, embrace her destiny, and unlock her latent powers, or else she risks destroying the supernatural and human realms.
