One fateful, stormy night, a couple stumbled upon a little girl lying on the sand. There were no footprints, no sign of anyone else—as if she was a secret the ocean itself had wanted to keep but couldn’t. Years later an old letter would find her. It had no return address—only her name: Morwenna Willowheart Brightwood. At first, Morwenna (now an adult) thought about disposing of it. But then the faces came, slithering in the waves beneath the foam and spray and whispering the secrets of her long-forgotten past. The time had come for the heir of Selkie royalty and druidic lineage to tap into the magic simmering in her blood. But one power-crazed ancient warlock is set on using Morwenna's magic as a weapon to tear down the walls between land and sea and fuse both realms into one under his rule. Dive into Lisa A. Moore's Whispers of the Selkie and join Morwenna as she sets out across land and sea to untangle the generations-old mystery of her Selkie heritage and break the curse.
Lisa A. Moore's prose is excellent; she's a master storyteller. You can hear the angry waves crash onto the rocks and the winds scream, the ocean itself echoing the fury building within Morwenna. Ancient foes are set to clash, and stories that appear to be science fiction and mythical become something bigger and stranger. You feel the tension build up from within. The magnetism of the conflict unfolding offshore wraps itself around you like the sealskin around Morwenna—it did for me. The characters are fantastic. They burn with angst and fierce determination. I couldn't wait to see Morwenna's undiluted Selkie power come to full bloom against Lucien's all-consuming dark magic and I was not disappointed. The story thrives on high-stakes worldbuilding. Even deeper, it expands into self-discovery, survival, love, family, and what it truly means to be friends. Whispers of the Selkie is ideal for fans of adventure, adrenaline-packed action, magic, and excitement steeped in mythology. It's unputdownable—I loved it!
