Reclaiming Wholeness: Letting Your Light Shine Even If You’re Afraid to Be Seen is a non-fiction spiritual/inspirational work written by Kimberlie Chenoweth. The author, a mentor and founder of The Wholeness Project, shares her story of her childhood and adult life to illustrate her own process for reclaiming one’s true self. She discusses how the current rootless culture, wherein most people move away from where they were raised, has led to a prevalent feeling of disconnectedness. Chenoweth also explains how, as a child, the circumstances of one’s upbringing and family dynamics often results in a squirreling away of one’s own true self in an attempt to conform or present a persona that both keeps the individual safe and secure while pleasing parents and others who are more powerful or have control. As the child grows into an adult, the repressed self can reveal itself as vague longings or feelings that something is missing or not fulfilled. Chenoweth found many of her answers in working with various mentors and trainers, and in reconnecting with the earth.
Kimberlie Chenoweth’s non-fiction spiritual/inspirational self-help work, Reclaiming Wholeness: Letting Your Light Shine Even If You’re Afraid to Be Seen, is a thought-provoking and exhilarating read. I was touched by her fearless and frank sharing of her early childhood experiences and trauma, and inspired by the path she took to reclaim her wholeness, especially her studies with indigenous healers. While I was reading her story, I started considering both my past and current situations and thinking about what steps I could be considering on my own journey to wholeness. The format of Chenoweth’s text is outstanding; she often interrupts her narrative with letters addressed directly to the reader which serve to reinforce the concepts she’s been discussing, and shows the reader possible ways to utilize them on their own journey. There are also a number of marvelous quotes and an illuminating list of acknowledgements. I was moved and energized by Reclaiming Wholeness: Letting Your Light Shine Even If You’re Afraid to Be Seen, and I highly recommend it.
