Having grown up amongst immense privilege in the bucolic English countryside, he went on to enjoy an unrivalled education, both academically and socially.

He lives between London and Berkshire and still enjoys polo. Most of all he loves being in the English countryside shooting clay pigeons, but also game birds in the shooting season.

In My Rude Awakening, Edward Charles Featherstone shares stories about his experiences with love, fighting for his country, and sports. Though Charles grew up in a wealthy and successful family, he strived to find his own identity, leading him to go into the RAF and become an attack helicopter combat pilot. As if this wasn't challenging enough, Charles found himself developing a secret relationship with Gigi, the mother of his best friend, Jamie Blackwood. Charles's exploits with an older woman taught him a lot about women and introduced him to a world of passion and exciting risks. Charles also found joy in the sports of polo and golf, which he shared with his supportive family. Also, his story is richly packed with great experiences that remind us of the unpredictability of life, from his exciting discoveries in his youth to his enlightening experience of friendship, loss, and PTSD.

Edward Charles Featherstone generously shares stories about his first taste of love and sex, describing different positions and methods, which make it more suited to a mature audience. The book also explores the theme of having an Air Force military career in intricate detail. I enjoyed learning about the Apache helicopter, which is described as "an attack helicopter designed to go and look for the fight, withdraw, and then look for the next one." Prepare to meet some amazing characters, like Charles' grandfather, who was shot by the robbers he disobeyed and drove to the police station to report the incident. Overall, My Rude Awakening keeps readers hooked from start to finish with exciting love-themed anecdotes, links to fantastic songs, engaging conflicts, and compelling essays about Charles' inspiring military career. I am looking forward to reading the sequel to this charming romantic memoir.

My Rude Awakening is a thought-provoking coming-of-age memoir by Edward Charles Featherstone. The author narrates his intriguing formative years in Rockwell Manor. His upbringing was punctuated by enjoyable moments on the polo field. This sport proved to be an exciting, competitive, and sometimes demanding family tradition. Featherstone also recounts his experiences as a combat helicopter pilot for the Royal Air Force. His missions in the Middle East were some of his most traumatic but life-changing experiences. Even though these youthful encounters were pivotal in his developmental years, it is his sexual adventures--in particular, his love affair with a more mature woman--that had the most significant impact on his life. This intense relationship marked the author's transition into adulthood.

Edward Charles Featherstone has expertly crafted a well-written and intimate memoir depicting the central moments of his life. I admire how well the author expressed the expectations placed on him throughout his youth and the struggles he faced during his upbringing. He paints a vivid picture of his family's dynamics, making it easy to connect with his life experiences. It was heartwarming to read about his interactions with his grandfather, Edward Francis George Apsley. There was a great deal of love, respect, and consideration between them both. The author's grandfather was very influential in his advancement toward adulthood. Featherstone's sexual adventures--which are the highlight of his memoir--are plentiful and meticulously presented. His sexual encounters are crucial in mapping his identity and perception of love. My Rude Awakening is a must-read for memoir lovers everywhere.

In Edward Charles Featherstone's My Rude Awakening, the author gives us a literary tour of his adolescent years in Rockwell Manor and his family life. We are introduced to his affinity for game bird shooting, golfing, playing polo, and fox hunting. Years later, into young adulthood, Charles joins the RAF's (Royal Air Force) rigorous helicopter flight training. Here, he meets fellow trainee Jamie, who introduces Charles to his alluring mother, Gigi. Gigi coaches him in the art of romance and lovemaking. Their intense romantic relationship unfolds over many years. Sadly, Charles' stint as an RAF pilot is overshadowed by psychological and emotional upheaval. The traumatic events witnessed by Charles and his squadron members precipitated his PTSD diagnosis. After coming to terms with his mental health issues and receiving therapy to address them, the author was inspired to write his incredible story.
