I will Rise Above it! Who Invited the Spirit of Depression to Dinner? by Nadine Tyree Anderson is a inspirational book dedicated to detailing the spirit of depression and how it manifests within people's lives without them even realizing it. The book gives Bible scriptures and there is also a reflection portion that allows the reader to make notes and write things to be remembered. The quote that stood out most to me as I read was "Depression can be lethal" because when a person becomes depressed they lose all sense of reality and become isolated. The vocabulary portion of the book was helpful because it gave insight into the thought patterns of a person suffering from depression at the time they are coping.
I will Rise Above It! by Nadine Tyree Anderson is very uplifting. It gives helpful activities like the envelope under the bed labeled "God's got it." This made me realize that worrying can be done subliminally, and how easy it is for negative thoughts to take over your mind. "Anxiety in a man's heart weighs it down, but a good word cheers it up" - Proverbs 12:25. This is a good read for teenagers because they may not even realize they are suffering from some of the minor symptoms associated with depression. For those that may not be suffering from depression, it's a motivational book to reaffirm positive thoughts surrounding everyday stressors. It's easy to read and understand while delivering a powerful message.
