Adventurers and outdoor lovers will surely find a piece of their heart in Caroline Goes Canoeing, written by Brian Clifford and beautifully illustrated by Anna Lomakina. The book focuses on a young girl named Caroline who goes canoeing with her mother and father, finding new friends in the wildlife, doing fun activities such as paddling, swimming, and fishing, and enjoying quality time as a family. This is a sweet story that children of all ages will enjoy, as you can feel the excitement that radiates from Caroline and reflects itself back on you.
Caroline Goes Canoeing is truly a delight for readers young and old! I happened to read this book to my nephew and he loved hearing about Caroline’s adventure, as well as pointing out the animals on the pages and, when we finished reading, he wanted to go back and read it once more! I suspect this will be a book that is revisited the next time story time comes around! In addition, the language is not too complex for young children so that they will be able to understand or read along with you, while older children can read aloud or on their own. That being said, the story itself is a lovely one, but Lomakina’s wonderful illustrations are what helps push this book over the top! You can see the joy in the faces of Caroline and her mother and father, and you can’t help but mirror their expressions as you look down at your own little adventurer and perhaps make some exciting new plans of your own.
