Jonty and the Giant Pike is the second picture book in Tuula Pere's Jonty Series. Jonty loves everything about fishing. This summer, he and his dad are building a fish pond for raising rainbow trout, something he has been dreaming about forever. While Jonty's mom isn't too sure of the plan, his father is fully on board. With the help of their neighbor, they dig the hole and slowly finish building the fish pond. The father and son duo bring baby fish from the fish farm and release them into the pond. One day, Jonty unexpectedly catches a big pike while fishing, and accidentally, the pike finds its way into the fish pond. As the months go by, the pike feeds on the trout. However, all it wants is to escape from the little pond.

Do you like to fish? Or maybe you like to eat fish? Join young Jonty on his fishing escapades in Jonty and the Giant Pike. This wholesome picture book is so much fun to read. Although it's the second in the series, the book can also be read as a standalone. Kids sometimes develop unexpected bonds with the animals they come in contact with. Jonty develops a similar affection for a great pike he caught while fishing and was planning to eat. Author Tuula Pere gives a lively personality to the pike, and it comes off like a character on its own in the story. Jonty and his father's relationship feels very wholesome and heartwarming. Illustrator Milena Radeva's hand-drawn artwork is beautiful and invigorates your mind while reading the story. Young readers are going to love this book!
