I read this book in less than an hour. That’s how quick a read it is. But there is more to it than the scant text — it is pithy, deep, and filled with words of wisdom to accompany the reader through life. Each page features a statement, a sentence, a maxim, or an axiom that is loaded with sense. Some of them are strangely funny, like one that says your mouth is the first thing to blame if you’re looking for someone to blame for your troubles. While the words are simple, there is a deep undercurrent of sense and wisdom flowing through them. Words of Sophia: A Wisdom Collection by Rex A. Ricks is a little precious book of well-articulated and thought-provoking sayings that can give readers the inspiration they need to change the course of the day.
I loved this book and for one thing: it contains words of motivation that can apply to anyone. For instance, I have been sitting on a decision I needed to make for a project and one of the message in this book made me think deeply about it: “If you’re waiting on those around you to believe in you, you will never take flight.” How often do we stop to reflect on our decisions, to consider the fact that a poor decision today can create a monster we’ll eventually have to deal with tomorrow? This book opens the reader’s eyes to reality, compels the reader to nurture a positive, responsible attitude towards life, a healthy disposition to growth and change, and relationship ethics that create space for people to embrace their core values and grow. Words of Sophia: A Wisdom Collection is a gift that offers us common sense wisdom for everyday living.
