In the whimsical picture book Trolly the Troll: The Magic of Kindness by Charly Froh and Zuzana Svobodová, a troll learns that happiness comes from kindness and serving others, not through material things. Wondrous creatures roam the beautiful, magical land of the Emerald Kingdom. All the trolls who live there love sharing and giving gifts to each other except Trolly, who prefers to receive presents instead of giving them to her friends. One day while walking on Emerald’s vibrant rocks, she makes a fantastic discovery that could grant her everything she has always wished for. Despite having everything she wanted, Trolly realizes she is unhappy and has nobody to enjoy her things with. Soon she discovers the joy of helping others and sharing with them.
Lively, colorful illustrations capture the beauty of the Emerald Kingdom, creating an eye-catching setting for this beautiful tale. The pictures also adeptly show Trolly’s emotions throughout the story. Trolly’s experiences are an important reminder that joy is found through community, kindness, and sharing. Young readers will love the story’s extraordinary characters, including trolls, dwarfs, and dragons. They will be thrilled by the activities and the places in the Emerald Kingdom that Trolly encounters when strolling along on her adventures. I found the story’s twists enjoyable, along with its joyful ending. Trolly the Troll by Charly Froh and Zuzana Svobodová is a charming tale set in an enchanting land with otherworldly creatures. Its moral lessons will be helpful to young and adult readers.
