He is torn between his natural tendency to acquire things that don’t belong to him and his sudden rise in status.

Second Pocket First is an interesting look at the thin line between right and wrong. Author Gregory Grosvenor has created an interesting and lovable character in Issey. He is somewhat Walter Mittyesque in his perception of the world, with a tendency to live in his own mind to a large extent. Although he may come across as a bit simple or even stupid, there is no doubt that he knows exactly who he is, a thief, and he is quite comfortable with that. Comedic writing is not an easy task and the author has done a good job of exploring the different humorous situations Issey finds himself in. I particularly enjoyed the unusual romance between Issey and Rhonda/Molly. In many ways, their whole relationship summed up the inherent confusion that was in Issey’s mind. The willingness of the people of Bell River Valley to accept Issey’s arrival and not tie it to the sudden upsurge in crime in the town, apart from the police sergeant, just added to the farcical nature of the story. This is a fun, diverting romp that will amuse. I recommend this book to anyone seeking a pleasant diversion from reality for a few hours.
