The Red Herring by Jessica Anderson is an interesting mix of romance and thriller. The last thing Juliette Murray ever expected was to be called into her boss’s office and asked to play the role of a billionaire’s wife. An exotic dancer by trade, she led a simple life in San Francisco. Noah Novak threw a spanner into the works of her existence. The owner of Novak Cruise Line, Noah never thought he would grow attached to the fiery redhead hired to play his wife for an evening. Launching into a torrid affair, the couple embarks on something even greater as they work together to seek out the missing sister of Noah’s friend, Gabe. Will they manage to solve the mystery or will their relationship be tested at every turn?
Miss Anderson certainly weaves together a steamy romance amid mysterious circumstances. I liked Juliette as a character and felt she had a strong head on her shoulders. Noah’s moods running hot and cold did not really do it for me. There were times I felt he was far too possessive of Juliette, even bordering on controlling in some instances. He blames his harsh past for this and Juliette seems to understand. To this reader though, he was just not someone I could see myself attracted to. I liked the added aspect of the kidnapping story and I will admit I was disappointed when the story came to an end without much conclusion. A decent novel with the promise of a sequel, The Red Herring by Jessica Anderson is an easy weekend read.
