Digital Soul by Vincent Valkier is an anthology of short stories relating to technology and its effect on humans. Raven tells the story of a high school senior who has lost his spiritual way. When he becomes friendly with a new classmate, strange things begin to happen, things that could help Trey find his faith again. But did the classmate even exist, or was she part of a higher power? Missing Links tells the story of the consequences of spreading videos without consent, while White Knight delves into a virtual world that goes horribly wrong. In the final tale, Genesis, an interview with a scientist leads to dire consequences when it comes to light that the key to immortality could have been discovered. All of these tales highlight the way we interact with technology and the potential consequences of relying on it far too much.

Digital Soul by Vincent Valkier is a fascinating look at the effect technology has on us, not just in what it can do but in how we interact with and use it. There is a little violence and bad language, but nothing over the top. Each story is well-crafted, with a diverse range of characters across them all. The narratives are long enough to let you get to know the characters well and delve into the story, but even the short stories are in-depth enough to satisfy any reader. This is an important subject, given the heavy reliance we have on digital technology these days. There is strong potential for misuse, and the fact that while it may help solve a lot of problems, technology isn’t always the answer. I enjoyed reading this collection; each story is a good length and easy to read in one sitting, and all are relatable to a range of readers.
