Vinny the Kitty’s Great Tomato by April Iliano is a delightful story about the simple pleasures and daydreams of its feline hero, Vinny. This enchanting tale centers on the last tomato of the summer—a bright, juicy fruit that ignites Vinny’s imagination and sparks a series of whimsical ideas about its fate. Iliano vividly portrays Vinny’s garden, where the tomato flourishes under the watchful eye of the kitty. Readers enjoy Vinny’s musings throughout the story as he dreams up increasingly elaborate plans for his treasured tomato. Each notion is more inventive than the last, from ideas of salad or spaghetti to a rocket destined for the moon, a circus performance, or even sending it on a luxurious global adventure.

This story is appealing because of its blend of humor and life lessons. While playful and funny, Vinny’s daydreams reflect deeper themes of appreciation and decision-making. Iliano skillfully uses the tomato as a metaphor for seizing the moment and valuing what one has before it's gone, a lesson Vinny learns only after his treasured tomato begins to spoil. The illustrations by Luna Stella D enhance the story’s lighthearted tone. Iliano’s dedication to her brother adds a touching personal element, suggesting a depth of thought and personal experience that informs her storytelling. The book emphasizes cherishing every moment and life’s simple pleasures. Vinny the Kitty’s Great Tomato is a beautifully crafted tale that combines fantasy with life lessons, making it meaningful for young audiences to read independently or have read to them.

Vinny the Kitty's Great Tomato by April Iliano is a picture book for young children. Vinny the Kitty picks the last tomato out of his luscious garden. After realizing it is the end of the summer, Vinny thinks carefully about the best way to enjoy it. He ponders making it into spaghetti sauce, or an omelet, but he just can't seem to make up his mind. Vinny decides to take a break and have a nap, hoping to dream up some more extravagant ideas, rather than the somewhat boring ones he'd come up with so far. Will Vinny think of the perfect way to eat his yummy tomato? Find out in this book.

Vinny the Kitty's Great Tomato is a short but sweet book children are going to love. The storyline pulls you in from the moment you begin reading and keeps you interested throughout. I liked the way that the author chose the main character to be a kitten as this will be appealing to young readers. I also feel it will give them a little giggle as well, because who doesn't love a story-telling kitten? I know I do. The content flows nicely and has been kept simple enough to allow children to follow along easily. If you are looking for your child's next bedtime story or a pastime on a rainy day, then look no further; this is the one for you. I know this book will be a huge hit among children and I can't wait to read it to my nephew. Keep up the good work, April Iliano.

In Vinny the Kitty's Great Tomato by April Iliano, Vinny has a delicious-looking tomato, the last one from his garden, which has already yielded a large crop. He contemplates what to do with this tasty-looking tomato, such as making spaghetti with it, painting a picture of it, taking it with him on a trip to the zoo, or even around the world. But Vinny also considers what might happen to his tomato, such as a seal at the zoo eating it, so he does nothing. As Vinny continues to think about what to do with the tomato, there’s a plot twist. The book would be appropriate for children who are just learning to read or those who want their grandparents or parents to read to them.

Vinny the Kitty's Great Tomato is a charming children’s book. April Iliano has a wonderful imagination and knows how to paint expressive word pictures. She also has a fine understanding of how children and some adults think. I laughed out loud at the plot twist in the next to last paragraph and I never saw it coming. That paragraph contains an important universal truth about acting when given the opportunity instead of merely contemplating a course of action. There are so many potential applications for this truth. I hope grandparents and parents will read this book, or let children who are old enough to read to do so themselves. Then the adults can discuss the story with the child to help them understand the importance of doing too much thinking and not enough acting. I highly recommend this entertaining book.

Vinny the Kitty has harvested his last tomato of the season. He’s taken great pride in planting the seeds, watching the plants grow, and enjoying the fruits of his labor. Now, there is but one tomato left and he must decide how best to enjoy it. In Vinny the Kitty's Great Tomato by April Iliano, Vinny the Kitty explores many possibilities. Perhaps he’ll make a spaghetti sauce, or chop the tomato up and add it to a salad. Then he considers some other creative ventures, like painting a portrait of himself next to the tomato, or even more boldly, allowing the tomato to sit on a seat on a swing in the park as he pushes it higher and higher. Vinny the Kitty certainly has a highly imaginative mind.

April Iliano’s children’s story Vinny the Kitty's Great Tomato is a sweet and endearing tale about one little kitty’s prowess as a gardener and his vast pool of creative ideas. The plot follows Vinny the Kitty as he studies his special last tomato of the crop. He recalls the growing season and feels proud of himself for his harvest. Now he must discover what’s best for his unique tomato. Some of his creative ideas are rather unusual and will have young readers chuckling along, but hopefully, it will also inspire these same young readers to come up with some of their own particularly creative ideas. The story is told in simple language and is a tale to inspire creativity and imagination.

Vinny the Kitty's Great Tomato by April Iliano follows the story of Vinny and how he discovers the last tomato of the season in his garden. Vinny loves tomatoes and will eat them at any time and on any occasion but now that he only has one left he needs to think more carefully about what to do with it. He wonders whether he should add it to a delicious spaghetti sauce or maybe use it in an omelet. Better still, why not paint a picture of the tomato? What will Vinny the Kitty finally decide to do with his last tomato?

Vinny the Kitty's Great Tomato by April Iliano is a cute and imaginative story about Vinny and his love for tomatoes. Vinny has picked the final tomato from his garden and despite considering his options at length he cannot decide how to use it. I found this tale to be adorable and even though it centers on just a tomato, the main moral of the story revolves around how to cherish and enjoy something. I think that this is a really good lesson to teach young children while narrating it in an entertaining and interesting way. I can see children finding this account amusing and enjoyable. The plot is both concise and endearing while still being able to get across the main learning points. The book itself is well written with a lot of new words for young children to add to their vocabularies while having fun along the way.

I love black and white tuxedo cats and homegrown tomatoes, so I am not surprised that I enjoyed the whimsy of Vinny the Kitty’s Great Tomato by April Iliano. In it, Vinny the Kitty must ponder how to best prepare and savor the last great tomato from his summer garden. He considers all sorts of ways to eat the yummy tomato but soon tires of thinking about it. A catnap is then in order. As Vinny dreams, he imagines more fantastical ways to celebrate his last tomato of the summer. Should he send it by rocket to the moon? Or perhaps he should take it to the zoo and toss it to a seal to balance on its nose? When Vinny finally wakes from his long nap, he learns an important lesson that “There is no better time than the present.”

Vinny the Kitty’s Great Tomato is sure to tickle the funnybones of its young and not-so-young readers, making it a perfect choice for reading aloud with youngsters. April Iliano's imaginative storyline and quirky scenes will delight preschoolers and may even have them wondering whether cats like tomatoes! The illustrations by Luna Stella D are also appealing, with their bold colors and cute characters. I especially liked how Vinny’s saucer eyes captured each change in mood in the story. Even the message about the value of living in the present is heartfelt and should resonate with both children and adults. After all, there is no time like it.

All summer long, he has enjoyed his delicious, fresh-from-the-garden tomatoes! Now, he is down to his last one, but what should he do with it? What will Vinny do with his last beautiful tomato?

Vinny is pictured as a black and white cat. Each of his outlandish ideas is shown clearly in the illustrations done by Luna Stella D. Kids who have cats will relate to the picture of Vinny swatting the bowl off the counter. That is definitely typical cat behavior. Parents will appreciate the sweet ending, which concludes with an important moral. Iliano reminds kids to enjoy the present and that many things are special and unique just by simply existing. Vinny the Kitty's Great Tomato is a humorous tale with a valuable message.
