The Two Sisters is a work of fiction in the science fiction and fantasy subgenres and serves as the first installment in the Intra-Earth Chronicles series. It is intended for children and was penned by author Kara Jacobson. Set in the distant future after a nuclear fallout has ravaged the world, the book follows sisters Sasha and Adrianne after they are separated by a mysterious ravine that has swallowed Adrianne whole. As Sasha searches through the desert to find the ravine, hoping that her sister is still alive at the bottom of it, Adrianne fights for her life in a world underneath hers.
This was a wonderful and exciting tale that tells the coming of age story of the two sisters, establishing an engaging new fantasy world of danger and adventure from which I’m certain many more exciting stories will emerge. The relationship between Adrianne and Sasha is intense but relatable, and their love for each other forms the beating heart of a story filled with danger and mystery. Kara Jacobson’s descriptive prose manages to be consistently gorgeous without pushing the boundaries of the reading level of the intended audience, and the sense of pacing she creates by switching between the sisters does a marvelous job at keeping the reader constantly engaged. The Two Sisters achieves the impressive feat that many first installments fall short of; telling a tight and captivating story that both stands on its own as a complete narrative but also sets the stage for what I hope will be many more adventures to follow.
