In Heart on Fire, author Montana Rivers brings the quiet town of Eagle Lake to life, or at least it seems quiet on the surface. Retired FBI agent Bodhi Beckett finds himself caught in a deadly game with The Hangman, a serial killer who leaves his tattooed victims hanging from a noose. As Bodhi digs deeper into the case, he comes into contact with the secretive café owner Hayes Kollyns. Their connection is intense from the start, but, as more people get involved, the danger only grows. The mix of passion and suspense had me completely hooked, and the constant tension kept me on edge the whole way through.

Author Montana Rivers does an incredible job of balancing high-stakes suspense with fiery romance, making it impossible to put the book down, just like the first novel in the series. I loved returning to this world and writing style. The characters always feel real and layered, which makes the mystery even more gripping because everything feels so personal. One thing that really stood out to me was how vividly Montana brings Eagle Lake to life—it’s the kind of small town that seems peaceful but is hiding plenty of dark secrets. The chemistry between Bodhi and Hayes is electric, adding even more intensity to an already thrilling story. And while the investigation keeps things moving, the emotional depth is what really makes the book stand out. Overall, Heart on Fire is a fantastic addition to The Men of Shadow Surveillance series and I'd recommend it to anyone who loves romance with a side of danger.

In Heart on Fire by Montana Rivers, drugs, romance, and murder mysteries intersect when FBI agent Bodhi Beckett develops a personal vendetta against the elusive serial killer, The Hangman. Bodhi was happily married to Tyler, and he loved his job, but both lost meaning when The Hangman popped up on his radar and made his wife disappear. For eight years, nothing could distract Bodhi from investigating Tyler's disappearance, even though The Hangman consistently outfoxed him. However, a new chain of events unfolds when he steps into the Black Rock Café, where he meets Hayes Kollyns, who turns out to be, quite frankly, fuel to his fire. Now is not the time to create personal connections, but Bodhi can't resist Hayes' allure. Meanwhile, The Hangman, who could still turn out to be anyone, inches closer as bodies pile up faster than ever. Fortunately, Bodhi and his friends, Jake and Colt, are a formidable team, and they will certainly face The Hangman. But as what? As victims, or as the last faces The Hangman will ever see?

Montana Rivers' Heart on Fire is a mix of romance, crime, mystery, and thriller, complete with erotic elements of bondage and submission woven into a suspenseful plot. It tells a story of shared problems, fear, and love. It paints colorful pictures of what happens when two people who survive by keeping others at arm's length can't keep out of each other's thoughts. The first few pages got my heart racing while the rest of the story is interspersed with twists that suddenly speed up the plot. Each chapter is narrated from the perspective of the main characters Bodhi Beckett and Hayes Kollyns, placing the reader directly in their thoughts and making them more relatable. Heart on Fire is tinged with humor and punctuated by sizzling erotic scenes. Indeed, nearly every conversation between the main characters is charged with innuendos and double meanings. Author Montana Rivers deserves applause for this well-woven mystery and her adept use of suspense that kept me guessing until the end.

In Montana Rivers' Heart on Fire, Eagle Lake is a seemingly tranquil town where evil ominously lurks behind the scenes. Amid the sudden disappearance of a local news anchor, Katy Caplan, a deranged serial killer known only as The Hangman, is on the loose. This lunatic is skillfully able to evade police capture while murdering and tattooing each new victim. Bodhi Beckett, a former FBI agent turned private investigator, is determined to bring this psychopath to justice. Hayes Kollyns, a beautiful barista, has caught his attention. Nonetheless, memories of his missing wife continue to haunt his thoughts. Is Hayes his second chance at love? Unfortunately, Hayes' past isn't the only thing curtailing their happy-ever-after. Tage, the new tattoo artist in town, has his eyes trained on her, while Mercedes, an enigmatic journalist, enjoys getting under Bodhi's skin. Can Bodhi and Hayes' love withstand the dangers and steamy seductions looming around them?

Heart on Fire is a fast-paced thriller that merges romance with addictively high-stakes situations. Erotic, suspenseful, and emotionally intense, this captivating tale explores what happens when danger and desire collide in a town where its main characters are psychologically—and, in some cases, physically—undressed. This intoxicating read will keep you fully engaged and hooked from beginning to end. Its intriguing characters, seductive BDSM scenes, alluring storyline, and shocking plot twists will leave you wondering who you can—and shouldn't—trust. You'll never be able to predict what's about to happen next, and even if you do, Rivers cleverly throws another breathtaking surprise into the plot. I love how Bodhi's and Hayes' dual POVs paint a vivid picture of the events that unfold around them. Their narratives are like well-sculpted puzzle pieces that fit together perfectly. I recommend this novel for an experience that will entice your senses and leave you eager for more.
