Oldest Mom On the Playground by Judy Haveson is a compilation of stand-alone essays. After decades of living a single life and building her career, Haveson decided to pursue family goals. She discusses her pregnancy losses, the birth of her child, and the challenges she faced as she transitioned into life as a mother in her middle years. From "mom guilt" to thousand-dollar strollers, readers will see the happiness she created with her family while navigating work responsibilities and unsolicited parenting advice. The author details the search for a good preschool in New York, the help of a good nanny, childhood sicknesses, and the decision to work from home.

Judy Haveson doesn't offer parenting advice; she simply shows it's never too late to fulfill your dreams. It was beautiful to see the way Haveson's life changed after having a baby. Not only was she focused on making good choices for her son, but the people she met because she was a mother and the support she received offered her more perspective and a fuller life. Even though she took a more nontraditional route to marriage and family, it never affected her fulfillment. I have birthed children in my early teens and late thirties. At any age, I could definitely relate to the criticism mothers receive as people you hardly know think they have a say in your family planning. The most beautiful part of Oldest Mom On the Playground is watching as the author and her son, Jack, grow together; Judy as a mom and a woman, and Jack as he goes from a toddler flushing toilets in an upscale preschool interview to a determined, kind young man.
