Anya has a very special best friend – Breck, a dinosaur with a very long neck. They do everything together and enjoy going on adventures. In Jennifer Conklin’s She Who Swims Above the Seas, the two friends decide to embark on a journey across the ocean. It’s not an easy trip, but Anya knows she will be safe, sitting at the top of Breck’s long neck while his legs reach the ocean floor. They prepare food for the journey and set out in the morning. Where their sea-soaring journey will take them is yet another adventure to share.

Jennifer Conklin’s picture book, She Who Swims Above the Seas, is the second book in the Adventure Above Series. Told in rhyming verse, this lyrical treasure will encourage young readers to dream big and let their imaginations soar. The plot follows the two friends as they prepare and set out on their adventure across the seas. The bright, bold, and colorful illustrations by Aaron Trudell add another dimension to the story, allowing young readers to enjoy looking at the wonders both above and below the sea. Youngsters will learn about different terrains, from the lush green forested island where the friends begin their journey to the clear blue sea that is home to many other living creatures. The powerful message in this simple story is the beauty of a good friendship and how working together makes anything possible. Anya and Breck are friends forever, despite, and perhaps because of, their unique differences. With an interesting page at the end listing intriguing facts about dinosaurs, this book is both engaging and educational. Beautifully told and presented.
