The Desert in the Glass by C.C. Luckey is a story with strong characters, a story filled with magical realism, following three women as they navigate challenges in their personal lives and a powerful threat to the world. When the world is struck by a disaster that is troubling yet seemingly natural, these women must find answers and their encounter with the Demon will determine if the balance of the world can remain undisturbed or not. In this novel, characters who are just ordinary women, like Joanna, a real estate professional, are tested, and their unique strength comes from facing the challenge head-on. Readers will enjoy following the paths of Joanna, Marie, and Bird. This is a gripping story with conflict and a denouement that, while leaving readers with questions, remains hugely satisfying.

The setting is cleverly depicted and from the very first sentence, the author conjures up vivid images in the minds of readers. Images like the garish pedestal signs, the deserted structures, and signs of desolation are beautifully captured. The story is filled with humor. The old man refers to his age as old plumbing and this funny way of saying things is so evident in the writing and it creates a strong atmosphere that helps both in augmenting the entertainment quality of the story and the depth of character. The Desert in the Glass is cleverly plotted and the deft use of suspense keeps the reading turning the pages, wanting to see what happens next. C.C. Luckey combines the power of descriptive prose with exciting dialogues to create a wonderful reading experience for readers. It is realistic yet with strong hints of the supernatural.
