The Adventures of Bentley Hippo: Inspiring Children to Be Kind is a children’s concept book written by Argyro Graphy and illustrated by M.H. Likhon. The first day of school was an event that Bentley Hippo and his friends definitely looked forward to. Instead of sitting in a classroom, they would be going to the annual fair. There were rides and all manner of fun things to do. The children all excitedly piled onto the school bus that would take them to the fair, but Bentley noticed that his friend, Tubby, wasn’t on the bus. Where was Tubby? The bus finally left, and the children had a grand time on the bus. When they arrived at the fair, the teacher gathered them around her, and she explained the rules each student was to follow. But Bentley could not help but worry about Tubby and wonder where he was.
Argyro Graphy’s children’s concept book, The Adventures of Bentley Hippo: Inspiring Children to Be Kind, follows the adventures Bentley Hippo and his friends on their first-day-of-school trip. This book focuses on the impact of bullying on students who are usually targeted for being shy, insecure or different. Tubby’s need to wear glasses makes him an ideal target in this case. Kids will get a good idea of what bullying is and how to deal with it by reading this story. They’ll also learn from Bentley’s example how easy and rewarding it is to be kind to others. It’s also a grand selection for storytime in class as it leads naturally into discussions of bullying and the importance of telling an adult when it occurs. M.H. Likhon’s brightly colored illustrations bring Bentley and his friends to brilliant life and seeing the fair and the parklands where they search for Tubby’s glasses is a grand adventure indeed. The Adventures of Bentley Hippo: Inspiring Children to Be Kind is highly recommended.
