In Alexander Julian III's Shadow Men, Candice Johnson was promoted to lead banker at First City Bank. Candice had plans to dine with her parents, but was murdered in her residence. Detective Del Stringer, who was old, demoted, and struggling with alcoholism, found himself assigned to this horrific murder investigation. While at a bar for a drink, he accidentally spilled water on a woman sitting next to him as he removed his coat. She was unimpressed by his actions, and, after a brief exchange, Del opted to continue drinking at home instead. When the woman’s body was found, suspicion fell upon Del. With his wife having left him, he had to confront his alcoholism alone while searching for the murderer. Will Del manage to apprehend the killer before the killer strikes again?
Shadow Men by Alexander Julian III was complex and captivating. It was a thrilling journey filled with murder, mystery, redemption, and obsession. The story was fast-paced and filled with action. The suspense kept me engaged, flipping through the pages as quickly as possible. The writing was captivating, immersing me in the investigation. The events were vividly described, and I had compassion for the victims and the way their lives were taken from them. The characters felt genuine and relatable. Del wrestled with his self-worth as he had to prove himself once more. The plot was expertly crafted and executed, gripping my attention from beginning to end. The revelation of the killer’s identity was utterly shocking and completely unforeseen. I enjoyed reading this book.
