Smart Girls Don’t Trust Strangers by C.A. Larmer tells the thrilling story of a group of sleuths who investigate the disappearance of Chanel Chambers after being hired by her mother Prue Chambers. Verity Vine - personal assistant to wealthy mogul Sir George Burlington - assists the group comprising of Meredith Kean, investigative journalist Frankie Jo, Chief Private Investigator Kila, Earle Fitzgerald the one-time head of Sydney’s Serious Crime Division, and author Martin Chase. Through their intensive investigations, the team hones in on Chanel’s ex, Colin Boyder, and philanderer Crispin Regatta. When someone close to Chanel is found murdered, the team focuses their investigation on the rest of the neighbors - Les Polanski and his wife Somlak, Tommaso Bianchi, Marie Bianchi, and Rachelle Easterly. Two witnesses, Douglas Dollarway and his daughter Pip, turn the investigation around when they provide new evidence. Detective Inspector Andrew Morgan and Detective Odetta Soderbergh from the Missing Persons Unit follow up on the leads provided by the team but have their own investigative methods which take a different route.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Smart Girls Don’t Trust Strangers. Author C.A. Larmer does a fantastic job of creating a variety of interesting characters with a mix of different personalities, all contributing to solving the case. The scenes and locations are all well described including the crime scene and apartment building. The story is smooth flowing from beginning to end and filled with loads of twists, turns, and surprises. The intriguing investigative process and dialogue contribute to the story. An absolute delight to read, this book is highly recommended to all adults who enjoy a good crime novel.
