Camelot Jones by Mayo M. Lucas is a thrilling historical romance set against the captivating backdrop of the Arkansas Ozarks in 1882, following the spirited Camelot Jones, also known as Cammie. She yearns for freedom and adventure but has never known much about the outside world. Eager to escape her suffocating life at home, she looks forward to her upcoming marriage to Jim, the man of her dreams. But fate intervenes when she becomes the unwitting victim of Elliott Hamilton, a smooth-talking banker from New York who accidentally wounds her while hunting. Their worlds collide as they are forced into an unintended marriage defined by chaos and misunderstanding. The story chronicles their journey toward self-discovery, love, and freedom. But will these two people with different backgrounds and interests make it work?

Mayo M. Lucas delivers a story with humor and grit while examining themes of identity, choice, and the social atmosphere of the late 19th century. Cammie's journey from a naïve, confined girl to a woman asserting her desires is presented with authenticity, as her dreams of freedom are set against her family’s traditional values. On the other hand, Elliott represents an intriguing contrast—an educated man of privilege thrust into the wilderness, learning to navigate not only the physical challenges presented by the rugged terrain but also the emotional hurdles that arise from his relationship with Cammie. The narrative has witty and engaging dialogue, tension, and underlying attraction. Camelot Jones features superior storytelling, unforgettable characters, and an emotional tension that moves the story forward at a steady pace.
