Sink or Swimwear: My Crazy Days as an Entrepreneur Surviving Life, PTSD, and a Cutthroat Industry is a memoir by Jennifer Berk Weisman, owner of Just Bones Boardwear, which features a patented adjustable waist design. While this former stay-at-home mom was starting up her swimwear company, she suffered extensive physical and emotional injuries after being hit by a speeding car. Over the following years, she balanced the additional demands placed on her by this tragedy as she developed her company in the face of many logistical, legal, and personal challenges. She recovered from her physical injuries, confronted the post-traumatic stress disorder that resulted from the accident, and championed improvements to pedestrian safety on the same streets where she and others were injured. Several photographs are included.
In Sink or Swimwear, Jennifer Berk Weisman gives us a wonderful account of a talented entrepreneur who displayed creativity, resilience, and determination in the face of life-changing trauma. The well-paced narrative is written in an open and frank manner, revealing her innermost thoughts, feelings, and frustrations as she tackled one challenge after another, many at the same time, to lead her business to success - only then to be faced with the economic downturn resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Her fighting spirit shines through, even when others let her down or even worked against her. Whether you’re an entrepreneur looking for insight into the fashion industry or a trauma survivor trying to balance your work and life demands, this book has something for you.
