Carissa is a singer, pianist, artist, and author of her debut Children’s picture book “Seeds for Sharing”. The granddaughter of Christian Missionaries, young Carissa grew up with a genuine and unique perspective on the virtue of giving back and making a difference through even the simplest of actions. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Sociology minor. She later received a Master’s Degree, Summa Cum Laude, in Public Administration with a focus on Nonprofit Management. While pursuing her respected degrees, she served as a founding member and President of her local Student United Way chapter and served as a Habitat for Humanity volunteer through the campus affiliate. Carissa lives in rural Elkmont, Alabama with her husband and two daughters where they enjoy hiking, making music, and of course, dress-up and gardening.

Seeds for Sharing, written by Carissa Lovvorn and illustrated by Joshua Wichterich, is based on 1 Timothy 6:18-19: “Verse 18. Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, (verse 19.) storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come that they may lay hold on eternal life.” (New King James version). Written for her daughters, Isabelle and Ella, Seeds for Sharing tells of two sisters who start a veggie patch of their very own. Prayerfully, they tend it until it produces such an abundant crop that they are able to share it with others. The relevance of the age-old Bible message is shown to be of special importance during current times of such uncertainty.
Carissa Lovvorn’s message in Seeds for Sharing is clear. When unhappy, as the two girls were when their school was closed, due to the lockdown restrictions imposed with the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic, by involving yourself in good works you can become happy again; by embarking on exciting projects that have, at their core, being of service to others. A valuable lesson to be learned at the start of life! The rather old-world illustrations effectively convey the emotions of those involved in the story, from the young girls intent on their work to an elderly woman who accepts their gift of veggies with relish. This scripturally-based picture book is a lovely way to entrench the desire to perform charitable works willingly.
