Charles and Janet Morris received the most devastating phone call a parent can get. As parents, we expect to our children to survive us. Sadly, it does not always happen that way. We give birth and raise our children to the best of our abilities. We take them to church and teach them about the love of Jesus. However, we cannot save them. Only the redeeming grace of our Lord Jesus Christ can do that. In their time of anguish, Charles and Janet drew strength, courage, and hope from the scriptures. The story of Abraham and Isaac brought courage. C.S. Lewis story of The Silver Chair brought comfort. Janet clung to the promise, “His sins are forgiven, and his lawless deeds I will remember no more.” (Hebrews 10:17)
My heart breaks for the Morris’. I can only imagine the pain of their loss. I admire the courage and faith they demonstrate in their book Saving a Life. They share their story with the hope of assisting others facing the loss of a loved one. This is a painful book to read, and yet it is a book of great hope. Through Christ, we are assured of salvation. Saving a Life is written in a simple, heartfelt way and is easy to understand. The Morris’ share scriptures that brought them comfort. The message is the same no matter your loss, whether it is the loss of a child, spouse, or other loved one. There is grace through the resurrection.
