Rebecca “Becca” Ann Hulls’ troubles had begun in the small town of Carson Springs, Wisconsin. Or perhaps they had started with her biological father Mack Enderly, whom she hated so much. If he had not been such a mean and drunken wreck, maybe her mother would not have given her up to a family in Carson Springs, who thanks to their allegiance to a cult-like religion, had taken Becca through a traumatizing childhood, changing her forever. Now at forty-two, Becca is still scarred from being robbed of a childhood she rightfully deserved and wants Mack to pay. But Mack is currently incarcerated serving a long sentence, and Becca can’t bring him the pain she intends to behind prison walls. She realizes he cares about his son Brian Enderly, the Chief of Cedar Point Police, and decides to go after him. Faced with an enemy who lurks closer than he thinks, is virtually a ghost in the records, and will do anything, even if it means killing, to get what they want, will Chief Brian and his family survive the storm that is Becca? Find out in Mary Perrine’s The Road of Lies: A Cedar Point Story.
Perrine builds suspense and mystery from the first page in an intriguing plot with a multi-perspective timeline. The spell-binding story twists and cliffhangers had me riveted. The evocative depictions breathed life into the scenes, plunging me into the world of a psychopath whose life was a dangerous game of hide and seek, where deception, secrets, threats, murder, impersonation, and manipulation were her cheat codes, and her end game a twisted mission of vengeance. Perrine reveals the characters' emotions, juxtaposing their traits and allowing me to connect with them. Becca may have had luck flying below the radar and getting away with the things she did to sustain her lifestyle, but her desire for revenge could be the last of her unsavory exploits. If you are looking for a mystery murder and sleuth novel laced with adventure, thrills, horror, and a gripping backstory, Mary Perrine’s The Road of Lies: A Cedar Point Story is just what you should be looking for.
