When Randall Scott, a former member of the Commonwealth Defence Force (CDF), the military organization of the Commonwealth, an intergalactic republic, learns about the abduction of his best friend Jarius Ford by the Commonwealth’s newest foe, the Collectives, he is scared by the reality of Jarius’ impending and tragic fate. Thanks to the CDF’s previous corrupt leadership, they had helped a tyrant regime oppress and kill people from the Khanoria nation, giving rise to the Collectives, a group of vengeful Khanorians hellbent on serving retribution to the Commonwealth. Now a member of the Expedition Task Force, a CDF Unit responsible for hunting down human and intergalactic criminals, Randall has to find a way to save his friend. However, Zataldra, the leader of the Collectives, is just getting started and the Commonwealth may not have tasted the last of her wrath and fury. Will they survive the bloodbath she has coming their way? Find out in Michael J. Brooks’ Republic Shattered: Sins of Before (Wars of the New Humanity Book #3).
Michael J. Brooks’ Republic Shattered is just what lovers of dystopian space opera sci-fi should be looking for. With succinct prose, Brooks weaves a layered and intriguing plot, treating me to intergalactic politics, futuristic technology, warfare, love affairs, action, adventure, thrills, and a dynamic and fascinating cast. The plot twists and tone of the storyline had me on the edge of my seat. Brooks has a knack for evocatively capturing the mood and setting of the scenes. The elaborate depictions that often created a vivid sense of movement and atmosphere made the novel cinematic. Brooks uses refreshing and well-paced dialogue, alongside a depth to the storyline that brings out the emotions and complex traits of the cast. This allowed me to connect with them and understand their conflicts in a morally complex universe. This is an incredible third installment in the New Humanity book series.
