Restored by Jason K Macomson is a stunning conclusion to the Refuge Trilogy, a story that features very compelling characters with an enormous conflict. This one will be a delight for those who love tales involving vampires and paranormal creatures. Eric runs the terrible risk of being executed by Demetrius and the Coven in a ceremony to mark the summer solstice. The clock is ticking. Will and Carol are back in Strongfield, desperately looking to save him, but where have the bad guys hidden him and can they find and rescue him before his time runs out? It’s a race against time, fraught with danger and numerous challenges as the duo runs from one dead end to another.
Restored by Jason K Macomson begins with three travelers arriving in the evening, all drenched. They are two tall vampires, “dragging another between them as a prisoner.” This is when I got hooked. I wanted to know who the prisoner was and what would happen to him. It is interesting to note that I felt pulled in from the start and didn’t have any trouble getting into the story without having read the two previous books in the series, thanks to the fact that the author doesn’t waste much time on unnecessary backstory. There is backstory, but it is trimmed down to what is essential. The plot was well-imagined and written with skill and style, with numerous surprises and moments that virtually made the reader jolt with surprise. It is intense. Expertly written, and exhilarating with the action.
