As women, we are continually subject to societal expectations based upon our gender without much regard to whether those expectations are realistic or even healthy for us. In Unfiltered and Unapologetic: A Woman’s Guide to Live, Love, and Lead with Boldness, author Judy McCutcheon addresses these expectations and uses her struggles as a woman and her experience as an Organizational Redesign Expert and a Financial Coach to help other women succeed both personally and professionally. By offering a forthright and unflinching accounting of her journey to self-acceptance, from her humble beginnings in the Caribbean to her success as a financial advisor, she inspires all women to develop the confidence to build a life lived with audacity and passion, expectations be damned.

What I loved the most about Unfiltered and Unapologetic was how it was written. Judy McCutcheon balances a highly articulate prose style with occasional profanity that is both appropriate and dead-on accurate. She is not one to mince words when a few choice expletives will illustrate her anger at the injustices that women must face. This approach creates an intimacy between McCutcheon and her readers, almost as though we are listening to an intelligent friend or sister willing to give advice straight with no chaser. I also greatly appreciated the author's final chapter with its exploration of the word 'gratitude.' Cultivating gratitude can lead to a state of grace where forgiveness is possible by forgiving others and, perhaps most importantly, forgiving ourselves for being imperfect. Such wisdom, the author attests, can only be achieved by living, loving, and leading with boldness.
