Author Biography

2019 Readers' Favorite Gold Medal Author!
Ann Boelter lives on a farm with her husband in the western US and enjoys anything and everything outdoors. She is an avid horsewoman and gardener who loves raising goats and growing giant pumpkins. When she was younger she traveled extensively throughout North America, Europe, Africa, and The South Pacific. She worked at a variety of jobs, from packing caviar at a salmon cannery in South Naknek, Alaska, to driving a forklift in Key Largo, Florida, before ultimately becoming a medical professional. Through all of that, she always felt the draw to write fiction. After placing second with two novels in two separate genres (historical romance and contemporary mainstream) in a national contest, she began to focus more seriously on writing. She draws upon her vast travel experiences and diverse cultural exposures to create vivid, unique characters set in rich, deep, believable settings.
Ann has three rules of writing based on her major pet peeves as a reader. 1. A series should be a series of related stories, not one story chopped into bits to sell more books. 2. Love scenes should be tastefully erotic, and occur where they fit—after a buildup of attraction and sexual tension, not random gratuitous sex thrown in. 3. A book should be well-edited and proofread before it is released. If it is not, then it's still a draft and should not be sold as a finished product.

Nena knew the gods would one day choose a man for her, but at nineteen it seemed they were waiting. In earnest, Nena had no qualms about this delay. She loved her life as a warrior, the feel of a weapon in her hand, the thrill of battle. All the things she loved about her life would cease to be when the gods revealed the one they chose for her. The gods had their methods, but she had never expected the attack on a friendly tournament to be part of their plan. She had intended to fight to the death, and take as many of the enemy with her as possible. Fate had other plans. The proud warrior princess found herself at the mercy of the enemy. There was one way to secure her freedom; to give herself willingly to the one who held her captive. Their people were enemies, and yet she saw something in her captor, something that made her question everything she thought she knew, and her path no longer seemed clear.

Nena is the first book in Ann Boelter's The Viking Treasure Huntress Series. Straight off, I am going to say this is without a doubt a must-read book. It has everything you could ask for: action, adventure, romance, conflict, and amazing characters. Whether main or supporting characters, you will find them rich, vibrant, and believable as you join them on their amazing journey. As I neared the end, I found myself releasing a breath when I discovered another chapter. This is a tale I did not want to end. I loved the bonds and relationships between the characters, the intense wanting and drives. The intimate scenes were written to encompass passion, yet handled with taste. I loved this story, and I highly recommend every page of it. From prologue to epilogue, Nena will captivate your attention, and hold you in its clutches long after the final page. I whole-heartedly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good story, whether you're looking for action, romance, historical fiction, adventure, or just a tale to entertain. In my eyes, this is a brilliant read, and I look forward to reading more from Ann Boelter in the future.

Nena by Ann Boelter is a historical Viking romance and book one in The Treasure Huntress Series. When Jarl’s Vikings attack a barbarian village, he gets more than he bargained for. The village has fallen but a warrior princess in still bravely fighting, even managing to cut off the ear of his second-in-command. Intrigued by Nena’s fighting spirit and captivated by her exotic beauty, Jarl lays claim to her. For Nena, the Northmen have always been her people's enemies, their tribes as different as a wolf and a lion, but she can’t deny the attraction growing between them with each passing day. His men killed her brother and grievously wounded her father, making it an impossible union. But Jarl has never failed to acquire a prize he wanted.

Ann Boelter created a series based on the solid foundation of The Treasure Huntress ship. When Jarl commissions the building of his ship, The Treasure Huntress, he asks the very best and is turned away. The shipbuilder Sigurd only agrees to build the ship for the sake of his dying wife. But it is no ordinary Viking ship. The Treasure Huntress is not only made to seek worldly treasures for its captain but the most important treasure of all, love. Nena is for every fan of Viking romance. It's filled with the right balance between romance and adventure. A steamy read with tasteful love scenes. I loved that the HEA wasn’t something you could easily predict. The suspense kept me guessing right to the very end. It was a pleasure reading this book and I loved the chapter headers too. With The Treasure Huntress having a new captain, more romance is sure to follow.

Nena (The Viking Treasure Huntress Series Book One) by Ann Boelter is a historical romance story that would appeal most to a mixed audience of mature young adults and adults who enjoy Viking romance stories and who do not mind some erotic love scenes. Nena is the daughter of a war chief and is herself a warrior who finds her life forever changed when the Northmen invade and she is taken captive. Jarl is a Viking leader able and willing to capture and kill any that stand in his way, yet Nena might just be enough to change him. Will these two come to love each other or will their differences lead to their deaths?

Nena by Ann Boelter has a beautiful cover that immediately attracted my attention with the fearsome-looking ship. Once I began reading this book, I slowly found myself drawn into the story and drawn to Nena. While I found myself interested in Jarl, it was Nena who made me keep reading. As I continued to read, I found myself reminded of the TV series Vikings, yet I quickly found that this book surpassed the show with the attention the author paid in creating such detailed characters, intricate plots, and a historical setting. I personally feel that the author did a wonderful job in handling the erotic scenes as they were carefully placed to be a part of the plot without turning the book into an erotic story. The scenes themselves were very tastefully written and I felt the characters stayed true to themselves during these scenes. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I hope the author continues the series as I would love to read the following books!

I must confess, I really liked Nena: The Viking Treasure Huntress Series Book One by Ann Boelter. I didn't know quite what to expect but I was very happy with what I got. I am a big fan of the Vikings, the historical people and the TV show. That’s why I decided to read Nena in the first place. But I had never read or heard of Ann Boelter and you never know what you might get with a new writer. Lucky for me, what I got was a great story. I would have to say that first and foremost it is a strong love story. One where the characters start from places so antithetical to each other that you can’t imagine them even being friends, let along committed lovers. The story of how that happens is great. Ann Boelter hits every note perfectly as she gives us a masterpiece of historical romance.

I guess the characters are the stars of this novel more than the historical details or descriptions of the cultures or everyday lives of the people of those times. Those things were woven skilfully into the story but the tension and conflict between Jarl and Nena dominated the story. There is a reason for that. Both are smart. Both are strong. And they are both attractive natural leaders, worthy to take center stage in any novel. I have the feeling that the Viking Treasure Huntress Series is going to be awesome. If you want to know why, then read the prologue. That will tell you two things. The first being that Ann Boelter can really write and the second being the direction this series is going.

This is the story of Nena and Jarl, two people from totally opposite sides of the battlefield, but destiny somehow brought them together. Nena is the daughter of a regional war chief and has been trained to fight and win. She fears no one, especially the pesky Northmen. Jarl is a powerful Viking leader, a man who is not scared of using his strength to get what he wants. So when he attacks and wins against Nena’s people, he takes what he wants, but sadly this time, the person he wants the most is not within his reach. There is a strong attraction between these two and they definitely want each other, but the circumstances and their responsibilities will not let them be together. What can these two do when everything is working against them?

Nena is the first novel in The Viking Treasure Huntress Series by Ann Boelter. A well thought-out romance with the perfect amount of suspense and action, this novel had me hooked right from the very beginning. Nena is such a strong character; she is resilient, determined and hardheaded. But her character development was brilliant, she understood her duties and knew she would have to make some sacrifices to make things work for her people. Jarl, on the other hand, is a little headstrong and an arrogant man who is proud of the power he holds. But with time, he develops into a compassionate man who wants the best for the woman he loves. The chemistry between the two protagonists is amazing and keeps the interest of the reader. The imagery and descriptions of the surroundings made everything almost alive. I could hear what the characters were hearing and see what they were seeing, which in my view is absolutely brilliant.
