My Worth, My Freedom, My Choice: Uncover the Real Me by Lisa S Borum is a memoir that begins with an intriguing question: “What’s your worth? Are you free? What choices do you make to ensure the outcome of your worth and freedom?” Pastor Lisa S Borum grew up with dreams of having a husband and twelve children. She spoke to God as a child; a Jamaican who knew God was somewhere there, but little did she know that He was even more real than she ever imagined. In this narrative, she shares her journey, her pain, frustrations, deceptions, and struggles, but what is most interesting is how she heard God speak to her through her vulnerability and how her connection with God allowed her to discover her worth in the midst of harrowing trials.
This is a beautiful story simply told; a narrative that is very insightful. I enjoyed how the author allows her Jamaican culture to come across in the narrative, introducing readers to some of the beautiful expressions of her people. By sharing her story, Lisa Borum passes a message of hope to her readers, letting them understand that God’s ways can be inscrutable and that He is ever present, even in the arid moments of life when we feel as though we are alone. My Worth, My Freedom, My Choice: Uncover the Real Me is a tale of hope and triumph, the triumph of love and faith, a story that demonstrates how the power of faith can lead to inner freedom. As I read through the pages of this book, I felt strong resonances. It was as though the author used her story to speak to mine. An interesting, thoughtful read.
