My Bones Are Love Gifts is a collection of poems by Dawn Sperber. There are thirty poems in this book and each one brings readers to an extraordinary realm that is both familiar and unusual. The Turning Time is a good example of the tone of the collection: "Each year’s the same/Spring wind strips away the dead leaves, readies the branches/and blows till the seeds and pollen fly/In order to grow, first, you must be blustered." The longing for redemption appears repeatedly, and often with a sense of resignation. It is as if the best one can do is to endure discomfort and bear witness to life itself. The poems here are written in free verse and are seldom predictable. Sperber is a poet who can transform the mundane into something magnificent.
