In her book, Letters to God - Diary of an Unsilenced Generation, Cassandra Smith reveals letters that teens and parents have written to God during ministerial events from Smith's days in working for a teen ministry. These letters are very revealing as you peer into the souls of the writers, both boys and girls, and indeed, of parents. This is a book for those who seek to know the truth about what our nation's youth, along with their parents, are experiencing these days. They all seek help and forgiveness, while some praise God for restoration and His love and forgiveness. Smith carefully admits that no one can fix everything, except for our Heavenly Father. She admits that this fact is sometimes frustrating as teen after teen revealed facts about their lives to her that will bring a tear to the reader's eye as most mature adults realize that often, it is the teen years that are life's most difficult.
This is certainly a book that every pastor, youth leader, parent, and mentor should read. It is also a book that all teens need to absorb, not only for the truth and wisdom that lies within Smith's words and more importantly, God's Word, but also so they can be assured they are not alone in their battles and suffering. The instructions in this book offer real time help for teens: Resources, How to Pray, How to find someone to talk to, and more. Cassandra Smith has written a gem, with many nuggets of truth contained inside. There are many passages of Scripture in this book that offer love and reassurance to those who are hurting. This is a book of raw revelation of the thoughts and perceptions of our youth, who will be the leaders of tomorrow. Get it and read it, and then make a promise to make yourself more available to teens. They need our love as well as His love. My hope and prayer is that this book will inspire some to take positive action in their churches and communities.
