Immortal Lovers: The Ultimate Sacrifice by Andrea D. Collins is as much about the past as it is about the present. Essence has spent her life trying to discover her past, haunted by dreams she doesn’t understand, and a new found ability to cast illusions. When a mysterious lawyer appears with a message from her late mother, a locket, and $200,000 in cash, Essence may finally get answers. Through her mother’s journal, she discovers how her parents met, that like her mother before her she’s a voodoo priestess, and along with her father’s identity, she learns he’s something darker, more mysterious. With her three closest friends, Essence makes plans to travel to the place where her parents met twenty-one years ago: New Orleans. As she learns the truth, her past threatens to crash into her present. Can she stop the darkness coming before she loses everyone she loves?
Immortal Lovers is a romance, but at its heart is family. Everything about who her parents are has been kept a secret. Essence’s driving force is to discover her origins. Part two is told from each of her parent's perspectives, from the day they met to the day Essence was born. Andrea Collins perfectly captures the different voices and tones. Essence’s story is a lot softer, filled with wonder, cute, and sweet. She has a long time infatuation with one of her closest friends, and he may feel the same way. Her mother Emoni’s perspective is more idealistic and confident. Her father Ian’s is seductive and dark. The vampires are seductive and blood thirsty beings, but they’re also charismatic and alluring. Immortal Lovers is the perfect treat for romance lovers with magic, love, fate, tragedy, and a touch of evil.
