I Want to Write a Story: A Kid's Guide to Writing by Lisa Waters is a guide for children to help them grasp the basics of writing and how to structure a story. It contains links to certain websites where they can find story prompts to help them get started. It also covers basic poetry and how to come up with a rhyme. The book encourages children to read as much as possible in the genre they want to write in. If they love fairy tales, then maybe they could create their own or come up with an alternative version.
Lisa Waters has produced a solid guide in I Want to Write a Story: A Kid's Guide to Writing. The only issue is what age group is it for? The child on the cover looks very young. I was seven myself when I started to write, but I would not have understood concepts like plagiarism and criticism. A slightly older child of maybe ten or twelve would understand better, although I guess it would depend on their intelligence level. Perhaps a parent reading the book with them would be better as they could explain things to their child.
Overall, there is some very good advice that anyone who wants to write should know. I think kids should always be encouraged to read and use their imaginations. Writing is a great hobby and if a child starts out young then they can work on their writing skills, and they might get published at a young age as a result.
