How to Survive Your 20s by Portia Ingram is full of good advice for teenagers who are transitioning to adulthood. It is extremely well written and the points are succinctly conveyed. It contains 12 chapters and a list of references. The chapters range from “Respect the Rainbow” to “You are More Intelligent Than You Think”. At the end of each chapter, there is a mini-exercise for readers to reflect on the points that have been discussed in that chapter. To help readers ponder on the points, in each mini-exercise, suggestions under the following headings are listed: recommended reading, recommended challenge, recommended activity, recommended exploration, reflective question, reflective thought, and responsive affirmation.

I loved How to Survive Your 20s by Portia Ingram as the advice is not only useful for teenagers, but also for adults. I particularly liked the advice on friends and how to relate to them in the chapter “Know When the Party’s Over”, bearing in mind that we all change over time. The discussion in the chapter “Treat Others the Way You’d Want to be Treated” is insightful. Then, there is the common sense advice on being open-minded and to check how we are doing in the chapter “Look Out! It’s Time for a Redirection”, and to take care of our health in the chapter “Kinda Trust the Guy in the White Coat”. After all this advice comes the heartwarming story of Portia Ingram’s grandma in the chapter “Your Parents are People”. Overall, a highly recommended read for those who want a smoother ride in life!
