On Resurrection Day will help children understand fundamental values such as hope and faith. This is a crucial Bible story about Jesus's sacrifice and redemption, highlighting the importance of forgiveness and renewal. Julie Barta presents the story in a poetic and straightforward narrative, combining animals and allegories. First, she shows a chrysalis in darkness, symbolizing transformation, until the butterfly emerges and discovers the world. Through this metaphor, Julie connects nature with the story of Jesus, making the message accessible to children. She then explores feelings such as betrayal and pain, preparing a way for hope. Within this context, she presents the moment of resurrection and its meaning.
I loved that both the text and the illustrations were by Julie Barta because everything combined harmoniously. The effort to fully convey an idea is evident. The illustrations stand out in their mostly golden tones that evoke peace and hope. The settings reflect both sadness and joy, and the presence of numerous animals reinforces the connection to nature and the teachings of the Bible. Julie uses short and easy-to-understand sentences. She explains a deep concept in simple language and maintains an even pace, developing a different topic on each page, such as love and freedom. I especially liked how she uses similes from nature for the more complex parts of the story while still showing Jesus and Mary at the key moment. Their encounter is touching. On Resurrection Day is a beautiful way to bring children closer to spirituality and reinforce the importance of mutual respect.
