Duck and Friends: Bots in a Box by Donna McFarland is a cute, adventurous story about Duck, who has his own farm that needs to be maintained, and his friends Cat and Hen, who keep him company all the time. After getting tired from all the work he has to do around the farm, Duck wished that he had more time to rest. Suddenly, he receives an ad in the mail about a new technology that can help him. It was none other than farm bots! Naturally, Duck was interested in the offer to minimize his workload, so he went online and ordered a pack of farm bots for his farm. Little did he know that you have to be very careful when assembling them and that you should follow the instructions to the letter, otherwise things will not go as planned. Duck finds himself in a total mess because of it! Will he be able to sort it out on time?
Duck and Friends by Donna McFarland is a fun little story accompanied by wonderful and colorful illustrations from Gayatri Ray. These complement each chapter of this exciting and uplifting story perfectly, and the characters are both relatable and approachable, which gives this children's tale an air of positivity and adds enjoyment. I was most impressed with the relaxed and easy-going character of Duck, who takes life as it comes and lives it in a carefree and enjoyable way, without too much worry, while understanding that working hard and working smart are two different things. It is a lovely life lesson for everyone reading this book. It would be great to read more adventures of Duck and his friends - it is a beautifully illustrated story with an impeccable style. It will be a delight to read for both children and their parents.
