All You Need is Love: Love in the City Series, Book 2 is a romantic comedy novel written by Melissa Baldwin. CJ Evans was beginning to feel as though she had finally gotten her act together -- maybe not totally -- but she was definitely almost there. She had finally discovered a business that was also a passion -- essential oils were her go-to for stress, headaches, with myriad other uses, and selling them was a natural extension of that. Her road trip with Stacy and Olivia, the childhood chums which she hadn’t seen for ages, had been surprisingly fun and effortless, and the three of them were determined to keep their newly revamped friendship alive. There was still, however, the inevitable phone calls from her mother to deal with, as well as the monthly dinner with mom ritual, which CJ dreaded and was actually seeing a therapist for help in coping with. CJ’s mom had been devastated when her husband had walked out on her and their daughter. That betrayal had left her harder, more controlling and almost combative at times with CJ. Even the road trip and the therapy couldn’t quite make talking with her mother less awful than a visit to the dentist. Still, CJ hadn’t gotten to the point of tucking her cellphone conveniently out of reach, and yes her mom had called.
Melissa Baldwin’s contemporary romantic comedy novel, All You Need is Love: Love in the City Series, Book 2, finds the newly reinvigorated CJ facing all manner of family and friend stresses and encountering a new romantic interest that is all but impossible to resist. I had read the first book in this series, On the Road to Love, which is written from the perspective of CJ’s friend, Stacy, and appreciated the fact that this book was written through CJ's instead. Anyone who has or knows someone with a controlling parent will instantly feel a rapport with CJ as she navigates her way through maternal minefields. Baldwin’s plot is an intriguing one that shows the three friends getting past old hurts and forging ever stronger bonds. Baldwin’s characters are credible, and her writing style is breezy and assured. All You Need is Love: Love in the City Series, Book 2 is most highly recommended.
