I have read many books and heard a lot of teaching about the Bible and people's experiences and thoughts about God. Almost every one of these offered me some interesting views and good counsel. However, the long Greek word that is translated into the English Bible as "gospel" means "good news ". Looked at in the context of the gospel stories, it would seem to me, that it refers to hilariously happy good news, not simply dry advice. The gospel stories tell of the lame walking, the sick being healed, and brokenhearted people having their wholeness restored. Sallie Dawkins' book tells about that kind of wonderful good news. The author boldly states that God is a very good God, that He loves people and that He is intensely interested in establishing a close relationship with each human. She describes many ways that God likes to communicate with people and she does so in an appealing, colorful, straightforward and kindhearted way. This message that the God of the whole universe is personally interested in interacting with me for my benefit and cheer is enormously great and good news to me. It is also, of course, a highly controversial topic in our secularized post modern culture. In many churches it doesn't seem to be a popular teaching, either. So in some ways, this book reminds me of a video I've seen of a ship called an " icebreaker " These big vessels cut a path through seas covered with ice many feet deep. Icebreakers go to cities near the arctic circle where supplies can only be transported in winter by these extraordinary ships. This book broke through some barriers, supplied me with a huge dose of encouragement, and warmed my heart considerably.

Author uses her own experiences as a backdrop to grow from a lukewarm Christian position to actively practicing to hear, engage with and obey the voice of God. As we have physical senses, so there are spiritual counterparts and we can experience God through these senses. I really like the practicality of this book, the prayers and activations at the end of each chapter opens us up to experience the very thing we are reading.

As a lover of Jesus and seeker in the Word, I craved more of Him but felt as though I was hitting my head against a glass ceiling. I cried out to God for more and He answered as He always does, unexpectedly. This book is a treasure of practical application knowledge found in relationship with Holy Spirit. Sallie’s testimonial transparency is refreshingly authentic and relatable for those of us who are new to the understanding of the ways of the Spirit. My own life is enriched beyond measure from learning these amazing ways to understand and know more of Him. To those of many faiths, who have little understanding of Holy Spirit, the content will likely be challenging. But, I say, accept the challenge. Put these words to the test and see what God says to you. I especially love how each chapter is organized with content and personal testimony followed by a direct application then sealed in prayer. God is speaking to you, can you hear Him?

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” James 1:17 has been my scripture this year. This book, and I have no doubt the entire series will be yet more of those perfect gifts.

I am always in awe of those who can articulate so clearly the impact of the spiritual experience within the physical realm. Sallie has done so beautifully and is so very relatable in every way. So many of her experiences are my own. This work is a combination testimony, teaching, instruction, devotion, and many, many revelations!

If you have not already learned to ‘tune in’ to Holy Spirit’s voice, this work will set you on your way. Aside from His Word, there have been few works which have inspired me personally as this has. I have been given a fresh desire for more of Him, and He has clarified and reinforced so much through the willing and submitted vessel of this author.

This is one that I will have in every format available, and already very much look forward to an audio version.
