Do you enjoy wrestling? If yes, grab a copy of WrestleDreamia by Daniel Boyd. Life hasn't been the same for middle schooler Breece Harris after his father's tragic death. Breece has become moody and isolated since the incident, so much so that his coach has dropped him from the school basketball team despite him being the best player. When pro wrestling's infamous 'heel' Brick Layer moves into the trailer park where Breece and his mother live, he is in for a surprise. A chance encounter leads to Brick taking Breece under his wing, and, soon, Breece finds himself working on a fitness regime while learning wrestling moves and pro wrestling's different roles. He shows a natural talent for the sport, which gets him a chance to fight in the upcoming local federation show. But is he good enough for the ring?
Heartfelt and moving, WrestleDreamia is an inspirational tale about following one's dreams. Anyone who enjoys sports dramas is going to love this book. Daniel Boyd's captivating narrative packs quite a punch and almost feels like an underdog story at times. The author paces the plot nicely, leaving room for readers to soak up the characters and the setting. Breece and Brick's mentor/prodigy relationship is the beating heart of this tale. I absolutely loved their dynamic and felt Brick filled the role of a father figure that Breece was missing in his life. There are also several funny moments in the book, which might get a chuckle or two out of you. In conclusion, I thoroughly enjoyed the book and can't recommend it highly enough.
