In What God Has...Writings for the Soul and Spirit, Rod Lee expresses his faith and shares practical teachings through his beautiful collection of anecdotes, poems, and writings. The article “A Second Death?” discusses the biblical meaning of the second death, explaining that it means the final separation of a person from God. In the poem “My Best Friends,” the narrator reflects on his special relationships with his spouse and Jesus. In several other poems in the collection, the narrator expresses his love for his wife. In the piece, “He Knows your Heart,” the writer explains that the world’s perception does not matter. What counts is to be known by God. Other poems ponder current issues such as “Where Is the Unity At?” which reflects on the brokenness in society today.
What God Has... contains many encouraging messages about patience and hope. I loved that the articles are concise and are accompanied by the biblical verses they expound. The work is also enlivened by beautiful, colored images. I also loved that the work blends different styles and each section accurately discusses the topics included. I found the work relevant to current times as it inspires a love for other people and recognizes the prevailing problems in our world. The love poems are a great addition to the collection. They are a wonderful demonstration of love and loyalty and they also vivify the collection. This is a lovely collection of writings that explore everyday life, faith, and relationships in an uplifting and informative way.
