Watch Me is from the Little Bunny series of preschool storybooks by Dianne Miller. It teaches the concept of socializing with other children while still feeling safe and connected to parents who are watching from a distance. Little Bunny and Mommy visit the pool where Little Bunny floats, splashes, and blows bubbles. When Mommy chats with a friend, Little Bunny becomes concerned that she’s not watching. Mommy reassures Little Bunny that she watches even when she’s busy. Little Bunny is quickly joined in the water by other little bunnies. They play games together and have fun. As Little Bunny and Mommy depart the pool, she reassures Little Bunny that she watched everything and is very proud. The book is fully illustrated, and a web site provides free “printables.”
In Watch Me, Dianne Miller gives us a sweet tale that encourages preschoolers to be comfortable with independent play while staying safe within their parents’ view. Little Bunny is a friendly, affectionate, and energetic character who is sure to appeal to young readers. Little Bunny’s Mommy is gentle and patient as she guides her child into playing apart from her, while at the same time she cautions Little Bunny to stay within her view. The illustrations depict a happy and positive experience for both Little Bunny and Mommy as they enjoy recreational time and catch up with friends while knowing that the other is near and within sight. The illustrations also provide an opportunity for parents and teachers to engage in broader conversations such as safety and courtesy in community pools.
