Islands of the Anomaly by Chris Cosmain continues the pulse-racing saga that began with The Amazon Anomaly, plunging readers into a terrifying new frontier: the sea. Two years after the anomaly was thought to be contained, mutated creatures and intelligent micro-machines emerge from the Amazon’s rivers and into the Atlantic, creating a deadly aquatic ecosystem that threatens the Americas. When divers are killed and entire coastal communities face devastation, scientists Scarlett, Fernanda, and their international team must respond before the threat goes global. Trapped on a transforming Barbados and facing evolving monsters, the survivors battle against both the anomaly and time. Packed with biological horror, high-stakes science, and global urgency, this is apocalyptic eco-sci-fi at its most thrilling.

Author Chris Cosmain knows how to ramp up the stakes in a sequel novel, tackling it with flair and brilliant innovations, including some truly jaw-dropping world-building and relentless pacing. I’m a big fan of biological horror, so the sea-dwelling creatures were a huge hit for me. The vivid descriptions and atmospheric tension-building will have readers wondering where the next fright will come from. This excellent continuation adds a new watery element to make it even more uncertain where the heroes may meet their doom, and the global stakes are also expanded for a bigger, bolder, and even more terrifying tale. The realistic emotional narrative keeps readers grounded with the characters. The response of the wider world and those trying to contain the threat results in a story where science meets nightmare in utterly believable ways. Overall, Islands of the Anomaly is a highly recommended read that surpasses all sequel expectations and becomes a whole new terrifying adventure in its own right.
