Two-Seven Remainder by Matt Hader is an interesting story of crime and love, and one of the complex dilemmas no-one would want to be caught in. Jakub “Pies” Jakubowski is a member of a crime team run by Stan Zielinski and his son, Sebastian, an expert team of thieves who work with very complex tools. Pies’ work is simple and vital when it comes to the survival of the team. Working with the police at a 9-11 Center, he is assigned the task of passing on sensitive information about dysfunctional alarm systems. Apart from the complex nature and the risks associated with his role, Pies is in love with a woman he has very little chance of getting for himself; he is in love with Sebastian’s girlfriend. Now Pies wants out, and he wants to take the troubled girl along. With a plan in place, he is set for the inevitable, but will he have the guts to put his plan in motion? What about the consequences of his betrayal if found out?
Matt Hader has a gift for grabbing the reader’s attention. He begins this intriguing story by thrusting the reader into the consciousness and troubled mind of one of the main characters. The reader immediately gets a keen sense of the nature of the conflict that will be developed through the work. I was drawn in right away and seduced by the tight prose and the vivid descriptions. Two-Seven Remainder features very compelling characters and deals with issues that readers encounter every day. The author seems to have done a lot of homework in the area of the technology featured in the work. The plot moves fast and it has very unexpected and surprising turns. I’d gladly recommend this captivating book for a fun and enjoyable read.
