My favorite thing about speculative fiction, especially epic fantasy, is when the author gets inventive. Trapped is full of unique character types. The world is rich with cultures. Reading this, you can tell the author put a lot of thought into building the world these characters occupy. And the writer's style is visceral, which is always a nice bonus.

Trapped seems an appropriate title for this book as I found myself trapped...entirely caught up in reading cover to cover, coming up for air just long enough to sleep and eat. Once begun, I could not put it down.

There is something spellbinding about this author's writing that I cannot define well, weaving a compelling web of mystery and adventure. The characters become larger than life. I feel their feelings, share their emotions and identify with their frailties. I miss them when the book is finished and the last page turned and am already hungry for more. So now I wait for the next adventure in this Kyron series....(sigh).

A wonderful addition to Kyron's Worlde. I would also highly recommend reading the other books in this series. A very colorful and unique world, with strong characters finding their way towards a destiny they know nothing about. The insights into character and self-awareness are not overdone and play well with the active adventure and conflicts that take place. There are two versions of this book - Trapped and Trapped X, which contains more sexual description than Trapped. I don't think the author needed to create a milder version of the book. The sex isn't over the top or overly frequent at all, plus it adds to the story. But that was her choice to make of course. Whatever version you chose, you will enjoy this book.

This is the first book that I've read by this particular author though there are apparently more books set in this world. It used to be that all I ever read was epic fantasy and sci fi, though nowadays I hardly read books in that genre at all. It was refreshing to return to that kind of world building. Epic fantasy definitely has a broader scope to it. Everything can be explained with “it's magic” which leaves a lot open to the author's imagination. But the author still has to make it make sense. I thought the writing in this book was really good. The world building was interesting. The characters were sympathetic. I love the cover, so pretty. I was drawn into the story and it held my interest. I am excited to read more by this author and reading more books in this series. 4 stars.

As an art guy, reading and listening to stories creates images in my mind. ES Tilton has a way of getting into my head when I read her work and it becomes more like I'm an observer and part of her world. The depth of the characters and the tapestry she weaves with them pulls me, takes me hostage and I'm along for an incredible ride as I see the story unfold more like a motion picture. The story will get you in its grip and not let you go... but, if the Red Pelican finds out you've been a part of hiding something from them... woe be unto you. READ IT! You will not be disappointed!

In the world of fantasy, this is exquisitely written with vivid details. Giving each unique character a distinct voice. Edge of your seat what will happen next. Page turner. Five out of five stars.

When an author is able to create an entirely separate world for their stories, I am always more than impressed. Tilton does more than that, she creates a world and then pulls us into it, with dynamic characters, deep backstories and intense feelings. With new species of humanoid characters, we are pulled in to not only the characters personal stories, but the backgrounds of their species, of their culture and ways of life, as well as how it effects their dealings with one another and the outside world. While showing us the many pitfalls of humanity within human and non-human characters alike, we are able to find within ourselves something relate-able in each chapter, that one thing we understand, that thing that connects with us. While this book is erotic and violent at times, it also shows the endurance of spirit and the way to fight for not only what you think is right, but for freedom from oppression.

She shows us ourselves in a mirror world, set in another time and place.

From the first page you are drawn in, a woman is seen bloodied and naked on the floor surrounded by death, but who started it? Who deserved to die? What could have led us here? With patience, all questions are answered.

Since this book is slightly longer than most of this genre, there is a never ending desire to keep turning the pages to find out what will happen next. Many books that change perspective between characters can have points of wanting to get back to "who we care about" but in this, we care about all of it, the visions of the villains, the flashbacks to the lives of the main characters, all of it lends itself to that emotional build as we try to reach the end of the tunnel and see the light.

I personally cannot wait for the next installment, to find out what is in store for our main characters Sarenka and D'trav.
